Introduction
Introduction to Truancy Call
Australian State schools have an average unexplained absenteeism rate of between 9.5 and 11% of the school population, with the private schools averaging around 6%. Of the total unexplained absences around 25% are never explained. In a school with an enrollment figure of 1,000 students this could be as many as 5,000 unexplained absences per year.
Even then, to get the figure down to 25%, schools have to put considerable resources into calling or writing to parents, tying up valuable administrator and teacher time and using scarce budgeted dollars.
Schools are well aware that casual truancy is very difficult to detect and therefore prevent, and in many cases if this goes unchecked casual truants become problem students.
Truancy Call enables schools to maximize their budget allocated to reducing unexplained absences and preventing truancy and provides staff with more time to focus on proactive activities as well as creating a communication channel with parents.
Now it is possible to contact all of the parents of absent students in just a few minutes.
Truancy Call will contact - by phone and before 11.00 am every morning - all of the parents of every student who is absent without explanation. Each call is personalized using text to speech technology. And if you use an advanced attendance system, take it to the next level and really capitalize on your investment.
Truancy Call is unique in that it is the only system that uses Interactive Voice Response (IVR) technology to call parents' homes. If there is no immediate response, it follows up with a text message (SMS) to parents' mobiles. And if there is still no response, it continues to call parents' home phones during the early evening between 6.00 pm and 8.30 pm.
On average 70% of all IVR calls made to parents are answered same day, direct on to the Truancy Call system, with the remainder coming via the school’s attendance line. Truancy Call stores the parent’s responses digitally for play back at the operator’s convenience and keeps them stored until they are deleted or the student leaves the school.
IVR works because it makes those persistent calls for you, during and after school hours.
Truancy Call reads most Student Management Software and attendance systems, so there is no double handling of data.
Every school achieves different results with Truancy Call and therefore we offer a no obligation free trial, so you can judge for yourself the benefits of implementing Truancy Call at your school.
